The global staffing market is a $650 billion market size.  APAC with its large and young population will be a leading growth engine in the staffing market and the overall HR services segment.  Despite an economic slowdown in 2022 and 2023, the long-term trend towards growth is clear given the demographics and GDP growth trendlines.

Despite the recent slowdown, the technology industry in Southeast Asia has experienced rapid growth in the past few years, driven by an increasing number of companies being started and a surge of investments. The tech industry continues to face challenges in attracting, compensating, and retaining top talent.  

The hiring market is inherently opaque, especially with respect to salary and compensation.  Understandably, companies are more guarded about this information.  Employees are generally do not discuss their own remuneration openly.  Information that is available is frequently unverified and unreliable.

Looking towards the coming years, competition for talent will only increase.  This will be especially true for tech talent as the rapid growth in the digital economy will continue to increase demand.  The trend towards digitization among enterprises, the rise of a greater number of startups, and the increasing attraction of the region for VC funding flows are all accelerating the demand for talent and thereby the competition that will occur in the market.

For job seekers, they want to ensure that they are getting a fair deal for their skills, talent and experience.  One of the key factors will be compensation, although career advancement, work-life balance and other factors will matter.  For employers, hiring managers will need to ensure that salary packages are competitive within the market to attract and retain talent.

There are passive job seekers and active job seekers.  Passives are generally employed and simply curious about what the market is currently offering.  The content component of salary information, career profiles, employer information, and other details act as an important lead magnet.  Actives are generally more interested in current opportunities, but also want to be able to profile and sort based on certain criteria, such as salary.

NodeFlair is building a platform to tackle the large and growing talent acquisition segment with a specific focus on Tech talents.  They have started with transparency as a centerpiece of their mission.  Part of this is a focus on verifying and validating salary information creates a unique differentiation among the pure “job board” players in the market.  They have leveraged this information to be able to start releasing an annual Tech Salary Report with trends and data on salary, seniority, and geography.
